V. Shrinivas Murthy, MD

Dr Murthy has been a physician, research scientist, educator and administrator in health care with over thirty years of professional experience with Universities, Pharmaceutical Industry, Health Maintenance Organizations and Hospitals.
Dr. Murthy earned his medical degree from MGM Medical College at Indore, India and obtained a postgraduate degree in Pharmacology from Indore and later a PhD from University of Manitoba, Winnipeg Canada. He was trained in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinal Medical Center in Milwaukee.
Since 1969, Dr Murthy has been active in research and has authored and contributed to 47 scientific publications and has presented over 50 abstracts at various national and international meetings.
He has contributed to the basic research as well as clinical development of several cardiovascular drugs including captopril, the first angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor, esmolol and several beta blockers, alpha blockers, calcium antagonists and has contributed to the understanding of intestinal circulation, autonomic control of heart rate, neurocardiogenic syncope among others.
Dr Murthy has been a member several national and international societies and enjoys teaching. He contributes to the training of fellows in the areas of cardiovascular medicine, physiology and pharmacology.
As the director of our Preventive Cardiology Clinic, Dr. Murthy provides consultative services for patients suffering from hypertension and dyslipidemias. He has started a Preventive Cardiology Conference which is aimed at enhancing the interactive learning among various health care provider in this rapidly growing area of cardiology.
